Sumanjot Kaur

Sumanjot Kaur is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Food Science at the University of
Arkansas.  She earned her bachelor’s in food technology from Punjab Agricultural University in
2021 and completed her master’s in food science at the University of Arkansas in 2023.  She is
working on improving the quality of soy ingredients using supercritical carbon dioxide
technology.  Suman has received 22 awards at regional, national, and international levels
including highest student honor “Thomas H. Smouse Fellowship and Honored Student Award”
at American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS), Dale Bumpers Distinguished Scholar PhD and
outstanding PhD student award from University of Arkansas.  She has published 10+ peer-
reviewed papers in food science and ingredient systems and completed internship in Kerry
Ingredients helping leading clean-label antioxidant projects with direct commercial applications.
 Beyond her scholarly achievements, Sumanjot is deeply committed to academic leadership and
professional service, actively contributing as an at-large representative for her college and
Graduate Student Representative for the Ozark Section of the Institute of Food Technologists. 
Through these roles, she has demonstrated strong leadership, collaboration, and communication
skills while supporting student representation and advancing professional dialogue within the
food science community.  Her scholarly achievements, impactful research, and continuous
service reflect a clear dedication to develop innovative solutions to address global food system
challenges.
